چکیده

We show that the main problem left open in [2] can be solved using the Banach spaces Zα recently constructed by Kalton [1]. This gives an example of a complex operator ideal that has no real analogue. It thus shows the richer structure of complex operator ideals compared with the real ones.

Throughout this article, we will only deal with those special mar...

Real and Complex Operator Ideals

The powerful concept of an operator ideal on the class of all Banach spaces makes sense in the real and in the complex case. In both settings we may, for example, consider compact, nuclear, or 2–summing operators, where the definitions are adapted to each other in a natural way. This paper deals with the question whether or not that fact is based on a general philosophy. Does there exists a one...

For a free ultrafilter U on ω we study several cardinal characteristics which describe part of the combinatorial structure of U . We provide various consistency results; e.g. we show how to force simultaneously many characters and many π–characters. We also investigate two ideals on the Baire space ω naturally related to U and calculate cardinal coefficients of these ideals in terms of cardinal...

For countably generated ideals, J , of B(H), geometric stability is necessary for the canonical spectral characterization of sums of (J , B(H))–commutators to hold. This answers a question raised by Dykema, Figiel, Weiss and Wodzicki. There are some ideals, J , having quasi–nilpotent elements that are not sums of (J , B(H))–commutators. Also, every trace on every geometrically stable ideal is a...
